Adamantane Molecular Model

Each is made-to-order by hand. Expect 1-2 weeks before delivery.

Stained 3/4-inch (1.9 cm) hardwood balls and stainless steel rods.

Dimensions:  5.5 × 5.5 × 5.5 inches (14 × 14 × 14 cm)

Description: This is a molecular model of the adamantane molecule, which is hydrocarbon consisting of four connected 6-membered rings in chair conformation. The carbon atoms have the same arrangement as diamond, hence the name adamantane, which is derived from Greek adamantinos meaning steel or diamond.

Physical models have been used by chemists for almost two centuries for three-dimensional representation of atomic arrangements in molecules and crystals. Their use has declined in recent decades due to advancements in computer graphics, but their importance remains in providing tactile intuition, historical connection, and inspiration.
